A Surprise Purpose

Although the story of “Reflections: When It’s No Longer” has always been a conversation starter about grief and loss, we had no idea that we would be filming it during a pandemic, a time of unusual and unique loss.

This film was created to facilitate guided conversations about grief and loss in families, friend groups, and at wellness and community events.

Now you can purchase tickets on this page to watch this important story in small groups on your computer or cast to your television.

Synopsis

Reflections is a dramatic short film about the human experience of loss. Dad, a senior, who lost his wife three years ago, moved to an old farmhouse acreage to get away and start anew. However, he has not been able to fully move on. That is until today. He is just about to take a final step when his son, Geordie, unexpectedly drops in to check in on him. Their conversation reveals how differently they are handling loss. Will Dad and Geordie hear one another before it’s too late?

An Historic Alberta 2020 Film Shoot

“Reflections” is a miracle! It was created during the beginning of Covid. We were the first and largest Alberta independent film project in 2020 to be filmed. We got our Covid Certification and had no health incidents at all during production.

We shot at a rural location near Strathmore, Alberta in August 2020. The budget for this short film was $15 000.00. It was a combined ACTRA union and non-union shoot.

Festivals and Awards

“Reflections” has been on the world wide festival circuit since 2021, after being reviewed at a couple of private online invitation only screenings for cast, crew, friends and family.

The purpose of being on the festival circuits was two fold – to test the film and get some reviews as well as to help us gain credibility for telling wellness stories on film. Most festivals require that a film not be released to the general public while on the circuit because they want it for their own audiences.

We are so grateful for the way that this movie has been received! “Reflections: When It’s No Longer” now has over 40 awards and recognitions – most pictured on the poster (above). These include Best Film, Best Actor, Best Director.

“Reflections” does not only dwell on the exploration of pain; it also offers a message of hope and redemption. Reinholdt does not shy away from confronting the harshness of grief but also shows the possibility of healing and growth through suffering. This duality is what makes the film not just a tale about loss but also about human resilience. In summary, “Reflections” is a work that, though short in duration, is rich in emotions and insights. Wanda Reinholdt delivers a cinematic piece that is not only a tribute to those who have suffered losses but also an exploration of how, even in the darkest moments, there is room for hope and transformation.

The beauty of Reflections is that it can serve a launching point for deeper conversations with family or friends experiencing the waves of grief. These honest discussions can foster a path to connection and healing.
